Exhibition Overview:

Around 100 years ago, in 1929, novelist Virginia Woolf wrote, “A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction.” In an era where those assigned as ‘women’ faced numerous social barriers and were denied freedom of creative expression, a room of one's own was essential.

This remains true for us today. In a society where prejudice and discrimination still lurk, we often bring the wounds we sustain back to our own rooms, unravel them, and confront them. In a sense, our own room is a shelter.

Yet, on the other hand, building upon the accumulated achievements of feminism, we can now share our thoughts and stand in solidarity with one another, just as Woolf once hoped. This exhibition values both how individual artists confront their own and others' wounds while reflecting on society, and how they interweave these experiences with those of others.

Just as we now hear and empathize with Woolf's voice, something we once faced alone—transcending time, space, and position—can become a catalyst for solidarity. Please visit these rooms born from a single “wound,” where we unravel it ourselves and interweave it with others.

Genster is a coined term meaning “people who think about gender.” It encompasses those who wish to openly discuss their thoughts and identities—which remain suspended, defying conventional categorization—even if their expressions feel incomplete or hesitant.

This project is not an exhibition of paintings or sculptures that everyone can recognize at a glance, but rather, it is an exhibition of so-called "conceptual" artworks. Through this project, we aim to create an exhibition that will encourage visitors of a commercial facility to pause for a moment and reflect on their own daily lives.
